An old chalet with red shutters and two contemporary villas: the hillside at Trembley is shared by three families. Individual plots of land are gathered together in a single layout without loss of privacy for any of the residents, and without it being necessary to erect any physical barriers: the positioning of the beeches, holm oaks, rhododendrons, weeping willows, fruit trees, irises, roses and garlic bowls makes this shared arrangement possible. This approach contrasts starkly with the current preference for enclosure, and requires consideration and civility on the part of those who adopt it. This garden is not about aesthetics alone: it provides space for a way of living – one that is designed to bring greater fulfilment!
