Tucked away amidst the plantations of cedars, pines and beeches is a kitchen garden, with an ironwork surround against which some very old fruit trees are spaliered. The square beds are enclosed with lines of Artois box, planted by layering. At the crossing of the paths, a tunnel of roses creates a Summer dining area. In an age-old custom, the gardeners pick vegetables for the kitchen, and flowers for the drawing rooms.
