Cut into the slope, the landscaped steps lend stability to the site. They also bring a welcome and restful horizontal perspective to the steep setting of the garden. The steps at ‘Fleur-d’Eau’ offer an enjoyable walk right down to the beach, and it is only in counting them that one realises the size of the drop. However, this is a garden which can be appreciated just as well when viewed from the terraces of the house.
